Explanation of Indicators Used and Terms Used:
SharesDaily.in
provides a number of indicators which reveal valuable information about a
stock:
Note: Not all these indicators may be operating on every page.
Security Name
This is the name of the company
Symbol or Ticker Symbol
The symbol assigned to the company or index by the
Stock Exchange. We may not always use the Ticker field.
Close or Value This is the closing price or
value of the
stock or index determined during the final period of the day's trading.
Index Rel%
Is the percentage rate of change of the stock
over the past five or ten trading days (as indicated) compared to the percentage rate of change of
the Exchange's Index over the
past ten trading days. A positive number means that the stock is outperforming the
Exchange's Index by that percentage, i.e. if a stock had a +5% rate of
change over the past five trading days and the Index had a +2% rate of
change over the same period then the Index Rel% column would show 3.00%. The index to which it is relative is
listed at the top of each page, e.g. BSE Sensex. The calculation is: (Stock
percentage rate of change over 5 days MINUS Index rate of change over five
days) = Index Rel%
With this indicator you can easily find those
stocks which are outperforming the rest of the market.
10 day % The
percentage rate of change of the closing prices of the stock over the past
ten trading days. It can be positive or negative, i.e. 5.75 means a 5.74%

that the Closing price has dropped 2.25% over the past ten trading days.
Volume This is the number of
shares traded during the previous trading day.
Vol %+ The percentage
rate of change of the volume of shares over one day (the previous
trading day).
In some cases the % Drop xx can
be a different period , e.g. 30 days, so can the Percentage Rate of change,
e.g. 1 day %
When 'a day' or a number of days is referred
to, It means a trading day or trading days. The past five trading days could
include a holiday or weekend, but it still refers to trading days. There is
no account taken of weekends & holidays.
Note: These indicators are
for general performance information
only. They should not be used exclusively when making trading decisions, nor
should they be used as a mechanical trading system or as an indication of
potential profits or losses.
Terms Used:
Technical Analysis.
This is a process which involves the
mathematical analysis of historical data to produce performance data and
detect existing trends. The calculations are produced by computer and do not
contain any opinion or subjective input.
Fundamental Analysis:
This involves factors like accounting,
profits, balance sheets, income, sales, anticipated earnings, price to
earnings ratio, market capitalisation, dividend yield, Board of Directors
and similar information. Your Stock Broker can supply this Fundamental
Analysis information. It may contain opinion and subjective input.
>> Combining both methods is ideal, i.e. you
could look for a stock which is showing good technical performance
indicating an upward trend and then use Fundamental Analysis to ascertain if
the stock is still reasonably priced, has good management and an expectation
of continuing good profits.
